To reduce energy consumption, newer types have become available including compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) and LED GU10 lamp (light emitting diode). Both of these newer technologies provide illumination with less electrical consumption, less heat, and longer life spans, all of which help them to be more environmentally friendly. Incandescent lamps are an old technology that depends on heating a tungsten filament till it glows, producing light and heat. These kinds of lamps use a lot of electricity.
One of the most important limitations is that the luminance emitted by the lamp can only be focused in one direction, rather than the multi-directional luminance of the others. This means that GU10 lamp are not good for illuminating a whole room in an even glow. Instead, they are better suited as accent lights in situations where track or flood lighting can be used to best advantage. LED technology when applied to light bulbs is a relatively new innovation. Because of this relative newness there are still some limitations at the present.
The first option is normal LED lighting. These diodes are small, ranging in size from 1 to 5 millimeters. Because they are small, it takes a large number of them to illuminate an area adequately. The second option available today is high powered lamps, which use fewer diodes to produce the same amount of illumination. One benefit of traditional lamps is that they still provide better dispersion than these high powered models, but the newer technologies are constantly being improved and will no doubt catch up soon. These high intensity models are good options for situations in which the lamps will be used to illuminate the whole room. When choosing lamps for track or flood lighting, it is important to consider what kinds of GU10 LED lamps are available. At the present, there are two varieties on the market.
While, they will not produce as much ambient light as incandescent or CFL bulbs, having enough LED sources in a room can offer a viable alternative at a better energy use ratio. High powered lights are best suited in groups of three or more to produce spotlight and accent illumination effects. These are good for showcasing art work or providing interesting pin spot accents in a room.LED GU10 lighting sources are new technologies that have some present limitations, primarily having to do with the dispersal of light emitted from them. As the technology becomes more developed, the gap between traditional and LED lighting is sure to close.
